Former American River College relief pitcher Ian Codina (17, pictured) signed a pro contract with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. The Miners are the same team that was coached by Beavers pitching coach Preston Vancil for three years. Codina signed after having pitched for the past two seasons at Cal State Dominguez Hills where he was one of the leaders of the Toros staff in appearances. Ian's first outing for the Miners was a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.
"I am very proud of Ian and very happy for him to get this opportunity. After having two great years for us and two good years at Dominguez Hills, he worked very hard with Coach Vancil to stay in shape in case this opportunity came around. It did and we are looking forward to seeing how far this can take him."
