BEAVERS DROP SECOND GAME TO SAN MATEO, 8-3
The American River College baseball team traveled to San Mateo on Wednesday to play the game that was postponed from Tuesday. Though it went better than the first game of the series, it still resulted in the Beavers getting swept by CSM in the two games. Sophomore RHP Ethan Palumbo was on the mound for the Beavers and he threw really well though the first 4 innings, not allowing a run. San Mateo broke through in the 5th however after a couple of one out singles to right followed by a two run double. San Mateo got three more in the 6th after an error by freshman 3B Jameson Barnes (Twelve Bridges) followed by a one out double and then a three run home run chased Palumbo from the game. Sophomore RHP Kaden Clive (Delta) got the last two out of the inning on two pitches. San Mateo would get to Clive also thanks to a defensive miscue. With two outs and a runner on 1st base freshman C Mason Tassano (Galt) dropped a pop up in foul territory that would have ended the inning. That batter ended up singling to left, followed by a hit by pitch to load the bases, then a bases clearing double put San Mateo up 8-3.
The Beavers got on the board early, needing just two batters to score the games first run. Sophomore SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) doubled to lead off the game, followed by a sharp single up the middle by freshman RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City). Pelechowicz had three hits on the day, including a double off the top of the center field fence in the third inning. ARC closed the gap to 5-3 in the top of the 7th inning when Tassano tripled to right center to drive in a run.
The Beavers were scheduled to play Yuba College at ARC on Thursday and at Yuba College on Friday but the weather has changed the plans to call for a doubleheader on Friday at ARC beginning at 11:00 am.
