BEAVERS TAKE TWO FROM YUBA – HEAD INTO BIG 8 CONFERENCE PLAY

In what has been an up and down non-conference slate to start the season, the American River College baseball team finished on a high note, sweeping a double-header from Yuba College at Beaver Field on Friday.  The teams were supposed to play at ARC on Thursday and then at Yuba College on Friday but Thursdays rain forced the teams into a double header at Beaver Field.  ARC got on the board in the first inning of game 1 thanks to a lead off triple by sophomore SS Bryce Sabatke (River City).  Freshman RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City) followed with a sacrifice fly and two batters in the Beavers had a 1-0 lead.  Freshman RHP Ayden Dringenberg (Oakmont) held the 49ers scoreless thru the first two innings, but the visitors managed to plate a run in the 3rd to tie the game.  The tie score did not last for long however as the Beavers scored five times in the 3rd, two on a double by Pelechowicz and three on a bases loaded double by sophomore LF Luke Haney (Oak Ridge).  Haney ended with 5 RBI in the first game and three in the second for a total of 8 RBI on the day.  Dringenberg lasted 5 2/3 of the scheduled 7 inning game with sophomore RHP Kaden Clive (Delta) picking up the final 4 outs.

Game 2 saw the Beavers jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first without the benefit of a hit.  Yuba's starting pitcher walked 7 while only recording two outs before giving way to a reliever who got the final out of the first.  The Beavers added a pair of runs in the 2nd inning on a two run single by Haney.  Sophomore CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) singled in a run in the 3rd to put ARC up 7-0.  Freshman RHP Ben Bowers (Folsom) kept the 49ers off the board for the first four innings but Yuba got on the board with a single run in the 5th.  Yuba got a run in the 7th inning off of sophomore LHP Quincey Carr (Whitney) but Carr threw a three-up three-down 8th to keep the Beavers ahead.  The Beavers got single runs in the 6th and 7th innings to put the game out of reach.

The Beavers evened up their non-conference record to 7-7 as they head into BIG 8 Conference play next week against Sierra College.
