BEAVERS CLINCH SERIES WITH 13-3 WIN OVER DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE
For the second straight season American River College has clinched the series over Diablo Valley College with a 13-3 win at Beaver Field on Thursday. The win keeps ARC in first place for the time being with a 4-1 conference record. Diablo Valley got on the board first by scoring three unearned runs off of starter Ayden Dringenberg (Oakmont). A pair of errors on the infield plus a walk and two of DVC's four hits on the day came in the top of the 2nd inning. Dringenberg settled down after that and allowed just two more baserunners over the next 3 innings of work. But the Beavers did not allow the Vikings to hold the lead for long, as ARC scored 4 times in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 4-3 lead. DH Rylan Pope (McClatchy) grounded into a bases loaded fielders choice to bring in a run, and the attempt to convert the grounder into a double play saw the ball get thrown away allowing another run to score. 3B Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) followed with a triple to left center to tie the game, and he then scored on a double to right by C Eli Campbell (Cordova). The Beavers essentially put the game away in the 3rd inning with 6 more runs, with Pope singling in another run and SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) knocking in two with a single up the middle. Campbell added an RBI double in the 7th inning and RF Brandon Pelechowicz singled in a run as well to give him two on the day. RHP Kaden Clive (Delta) came on in relief of Dringenberg in the 6th and had a 5 pitch, 3 up/3 down inning. Sophomores Randy Payne (Del Campo) and Nathan Gahn (Bear Creek) worked scoreless 7th and 8th innings respectively and Jose Vega (Highlands) struck out two in a 3 up/3down 9th inning.
The teams will conclude their three game series on Friday in Pleasant Hill at Diablo Valley College at 2:00 pm.
