WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END WITH 3-2 LOSS TO DVC
American River College entered Friday with a chance to sweep Diablo Valley College and extend the 3rd longest winning streak in Northern California. But the bats went cold. The Beavers managed just 5 hits, two of them infield hits by RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City) and the Beavers could not hold the 2-0 lead they had in the 8th inning. Freshman RHP Ben Bowers (Folsom) was terrific on the mound, blanking the Vikings for 6 innings on just 3 hits and one walk. Brandon Pelechowicz came on and worked a clean 7th inning but things got a little funky in the 8th. After a leadoff groundout, Pelechowicz walked the next two batters. DVC sent up a pinch hitter to face Pelechowicz who induced what looked to be an inning ending double play. However, just before the ball got to SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) the ball took a bad hop and went clear over his head into left field to bring in a run. Pelechowicz hit the next batter and was relieved by sophomore Kaden Clive (Delta) who has been solid all season. Clives first pitch went to the backstop for a game tying wild pitch, and the next batter singled up the middle to give the Vikings the lead, but CF Dylan Westbrook's (Oak Ridge) throw to the plate easily got the second runner trying to score, to keep the game at 3-2. After another single freshman RHP Zach Laduzinski (Whitney) came on and recorded the final out.
The game was scoreless for the first 4 innings but the Beavers got on the board in the 5th thanks to a sacrifice fly by Sabatke and an RBI single by Pelechowicz.
American River College moves on to face defending BIG 8 Conference Champion Santa Rosa JC, with home games on Tuesday and Saturday, and in Santa Rosa on Thursday.
