BEAVERS USE BIG INNING TO DOWN SANTA ROSA, TAKE SERIES FROM BEAR CUBS

Santa Rosa JC used a 6 run 4th inning to lock up the game 2 victory on Thursday, and American River College turned the tables and used a 6 run 5th inning to grab the game 3 win and take the series from the defending BIG 8 Conference champs.  Freshman RHP Brandon  Pelechowicz (Yuba City) was on the mound for the Beavers in his first start in over a month and he showed no rust.  He worked a scoreless first two innings, striking out the side in the 2nd.  Santa Rosa was able to score a single run in the third inning, then again in the top of the 5th to take a 2-0 lead.  But ARC used the big inning in the bottom of the inning to take what would be a commanding 6-2 lead.  After LF Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) led off with a single, his second of three hits on the day, freshman 3B Jameson Barnes (Twelve Bridges) was able to work a one out walk.  C Eli Campbell (Cordova) then singled in Haney to make the score 2-1.  SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) then doubled in Barnes to make the score 2-2.  After Pelechowicz walked and CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) struck out, Camobell scored to give the Beavers the lead on a wild pitch.  1B Jose Vega (Highlands) then singled in a pair of runs to make the score 5-2. After a Lance Sabatke single moved Vega to third, Haney hit one back up the middle the ricocheted off the pitchers glove and dribbled harmlessly to the middle of the infield, allowing Vega to score the 6th run of the inning.  ARC added an insurance run in the 8th inning when Westbrook singled in Bryce Sabatke, who had doubled to left.  Santa Rosa made the game interesting in the 9th inning, loading the bases with two outs, but sophomore RHP Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) came in to record the final out of the game, a chopper to third in which Barnes was able to field and step on the bag to end the game.  It is Palumbo's third save of the season.

The Beavers move on now to face their cross-town rivals, Sacramento City College beginning on Tuesday at Sacramento City.
