BEAVERS HAVE BIG FIRST INNING, BUT FALTER REST OF GAME- DROP GAME 1 TO SAC CITY 13-3

Things got off to a great start at Union Stadium on Tuesday with the American River College Beavers tallying three runs in the top of the first.  The big blow was a two run double by 1B Jose Vega (Highlands) to right center that scored RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City) who had walked and CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) who had doubled down the right field line.  Unfortunately, other than Vega scoring on an error later in the inning, that was all the runs ARC would get.  Sac City capitalized on a couple of big hits after that.  In the 3rd inning with the Beavers up 3-1, sophomore RHP Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) appeared to get out of a jam with a pop-up to short left field but some miscommunication allowed the ball to drop for an error allowing the second run to score.  After a hit batter, Sac City's centerfielder hit a three run home run over the left field fence to put the Panthers up 5-3.  Palumbo held the Panthers in check through 6 innings, but Sac City was able to capitalize on a two-out line drive to center that Westbrook had in his glove as he slid to make the catch, but the ball popped out after he hit the ground, allowing Sac City to go up 7-3.  Sac City scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th to put the game away, with the big blow being another three run home run.

The Beavers will host their cross-town rivals for the only time this year at Beaver Field on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
