PELECHOWICZ HITS FOR CYCLE, BEAVERS WIN BIG IN GAME 1, DROP GAME 2 TO FEATHER RIVER

Game 1 of the playoff best of three series between American River College and Feather River College could not have started any better for the Beavers.  SS Bryce Sabatke (River City) led off with an infield single.  RF Brandon Pelechowicz (Yuba City) doubled sending Sabatke to third.  CF Dylan Westbrook (Oak Ridge) then double to left center to put the Beavers up 2-0.  LF Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian) then singled in Pelechowicz.  Before the inning was over ARC was off to a 5-0 lead.  Freshman RHP Ben Bowers (Folsom) ended up being just as dominant on the mound as the Beavers were at the plate.  He held the Golden Eagles, one of the top hitting teams in the state scoreless for the first five innings, allowing just one run and 4 hits through 6 innings of work.  And he had plenty of run support to help him get the victory.  After the nice first inning start the Beavers added 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 4 more in the 3rd.  They then scored twice in the 4th inning to go up 15-0.  After a scoreless 5th inning the Beavers scored 8 runs in the 6th inning to really shut the door.  Feather River did manage to get a run in the 6th and 7th innings and the Beavers added a run in the top of the 9th to go up 24-2.  Feather River scored 7 runs in the 9th to make the final score 24-9.  Brandon Pelechowicz had the biggest day at the plate, hitting for the cycle, just the third ARC player to do so since 1985.  He also scored 4 runs and drove in 4.  Jackson Nichols added 4 RBI of his own on his 4 hits and 1B Jose Vega (Highlands) logged a team season high 6 RBI on 4 hits.  Westbrook and DH Rylan Pope (McClatchy) each added 3 RBI.  The 24 runs scored were the most for the Beavers since they scored 25 runs against Gavilan College in 2001.

Game 2 was not quite the offensive display as was the first game but there were plenty of hard hit balls.  The Beavers managed just 6 hits in the 4-2 defeat.  Pelechowicz got the start on the mound and he, like Bowers in game 1 held the Golden Eagles scoreless through 5 innings.  3B Luke Haney (Oak Ridge) almost single-handedly gave the Beavers the lead in the 2nd inning by driving in the first run of the game, then stealing 2nd, advancing to third as the catchers throw went into center field.  The centerfielders throw then went into the dugout allowing him to score putting the Beavers up 2-0.  The score would remain the same until Feather River scored three unearned runs in the 6th inning, chasing Pelechowicz from the game as the starting pitcher, though he would remain in the game as the DH.  Pelechowicz struck out 6 over 5 1/3 innings of work, scattering 5 hits and walking three.  The Beavers had several chances to score throughout the game but just couldn't get the big hit.

The two teams meet on Sunday at 10:00 am, an early start to try and beat the incoming thunder-storms that are predicted to come in in the early afternoon, with the season on the line.  The winner will move on to the Super-Regional round next week while the loser will begin preparations for the 2027 season.
