The American River College men's track & field team made the four hour trip Saturday morning to Monterey Peninsula College for their opening track & field competition of the year. Even after the long, early morning trip, the Beavers came out swinging by taking the state lead in the first event of the day and also easily outdistancing 2nd place De Anza by a score of 280.5 for the Beavers and 91.5 for De Anza. Gabe Ferges, previously of the College of San Mateo, and El Dorado High School, improved on his old personal best of 21'11" in the long jump with a leap of 23'3.5" to start the day off. Isaiah Griffin won the 100m in 11.02 and the 200m in 21.94. Richard Finical won the 400m in 49.88. The Beavers grabbed two of the top three spots in the 800m with Dejon Joseph 2nd in 1:57 and Alan Quintero 3rd in 1:58. ARC also took 4 of the top 5 places in the 1500m with Abdul Hamid 2nd in 4:06 and then 2nd in the 3000m in 8:47. Treshon Woods was 2nd in the 110m Hurdles in 15.17 but then came back to win the 400m Hurdles in 55.15. Both relay teams were victorious for American River with the 4x100m winning in 42.62 and the 4x400m in 3:19.72. Austin Collier, formerly of San Francisco City College, was the highest point scorer of the day. He won the High Jump at 6'3.5", won the Javelin at 172', won the Triple Jump at 45', and placed 5th in the Long Jump. Cambron Lyles placed 2nd in the Pole Vault as did Nathan Swisley in the Hammer at 150'. Next up for the Beavers is the NorCal Preview at Chabot College on Friday, February 26th at 10:00am for field events and 11:00am for running events.
