American River stayed in it until the end, but West Valley pulled away late in a 3-2 victory on Friday. The game was tied at two with West Valley batting in the top of the 7th when Zoe Mendez hit a solo homer. The pitching was strong on both sides. West Valley pitchers struck out eight, while American River sat down five.
Cassie Ralston led things off in the circle for American River. She allowed nine hits and three runs over seven innings. Kylee Oglethorpe and Kirsten Cox each had one hit for American River.
