American River Heptathletes All Hit State A!

The American River College women's heptathlon group turned in a series of competitive, well-rounded performances in their early-season appearance, showcasing both versatility and promising momentum as the 2026 campaign gets underway.  Every athlete (Kira Comfort, Kiyah Salers, Reyana Valentine, and Elise Moffatt) hit the State A qualifying marks!

Competing across the seven-event discipline—100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin, and 800 meters—the Beavers demonstrated growth in multiple areas, highlighted by personal-best marks and strong event-by-event consistency.

Leading the way, Kira Comfort  (4104 points) delivered a standout all-around effort, building on her strong individual event season. Already a State A qualifier in both the javelin and 400-meter hurdles, Comfort carried that momentum into the heptathlon, contributing key marks in her specialty events while continuing to develop across the board.  Kiyah Salers was runner-up (3775 points), also getting State B and first at this meet in long jump, 17'4".

The Beavers' heptathletes showed particular strength in the throwing and middle-distance portions of the competition. Strong marks in the javelin and shot put helped boost overall scores, while determined efforts in the closing 800 meters proved critical in securing final placements.  Elise Moffatt ranked first in the 800m competition with a time of 2:30.02.

Beyond the top performances, the meet served as an important early-season benchmark for the group. Several athletes recorded personal bests across individual events, reflecting steady progress in technical areas such as the hurdles and long jump.

American River returns to competition later this week at the West Coast Relays in Fresno, in preparation for NorCal multis on April 7-8 at Hartnell Collge.
