Game Recap: Beavers Play at Sierra
On November 5th, the ARC Beavers played an exciting match in Sierra College Wolverine's brand new gymnasium.
In the first set, Sierra's offense shined. They dug balls very well, stayed mostly in system, and played scrappily. The Wolverines blocked well and found the hole in the Beaver block. Their gameplay felt reminiscent of beach; lots of point-scoring tips, shots, and cuts. Shotty outsides and big swings from the right sides set a tone for them. The Beavs noticed huge improvements from Sierra's play compared to the first round they saw them. Wolverines took the first set 15-25.
The second set felt like a dramatic reversal of the first. Beavs held all the momentum– they went on serving runs, got their offense going, and played some great defense. Both of the teams rode some very big waves, which showed how drastically different teams can play within one match. The Beavs took the set 25-13.
The third and fourth sets felt like a toss-up between the two teams. Finally all on the same page of competition, they went point for point for multiple times. The third set went 25-22, and the fourth went 25-23, both taken by ARC. The Wolverines showed great decision making regarding when to swing and when to tip. They'd take two big swings, then tip– Get blocked, then tip. Overall, this was a very fun matchup where both teams got to showcase their strengths. Go Beavs!
